ABOUT OUR PRINTING

LITHO PRINTING
Litho printing is a printing process used in commercial printing for everything from booklets and magazines to flyers, business cards, postcards, folders and more.

Lithography (or Litho Printing) is the process in which an image to be printed is rendered on a flat metal plate which is treated to retain ink in certain areas and to repel ink in others. Each colour in the artwork requires a plate and setup, which are then printed in turn onto the sheet of paper resulting in a completed image.

Litho printing has very few limitations in terms of printing and can acturatley reproduce large quantities of affordable printing.  Litho printing is used for bulk printing as there are setup costs involved with each print run, thus it is not possible to produce a ‘sample’ print as it is too expensive.

For our standard litho printed products (as on our price list) we print in full colour using a ‘grouping’ rack. Full colour printing consists of small dots of Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black ink (CMYK) printed in turn on top of each other to produce a final colour image. Litho printing can reproduce everything from photographs to text and logos all in colour.

A ‘grouping’ rack is a standard practice used in South Africa for printing business cards and flyers, and is formed when different artworks from various customers are grouped together and printed at the same time on one sheet and cut into the individual cards or flyers at the end of the run. The advantage is that the setup costs of the whole print run are shared amongst all the cards or flyers on the sheet so a typical set of 500 business cards that would normally cost around R1,200 - R1,500 to reproduce, will rather end us costing R290 (without having to compromise on the quality of the printing!)

DIGITAL PRINTING (LARGE FORMAT)
Our digital large format printers are used for printing all our stickers, banners and display items up to 3m wide.

Large format printers make use of solvent based inks which are long lasting and waterproof (enabling outdoor use). The printers print onto rolls of the specific media, such as vinyl or PVC, in a full colour (CMYK) method similar to that of a home inkjet printer. Each machine has a Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black ink which it uses to print with.

Once the media is printed, it is then allowed to dry completely before finishing takes place. As the printing is digital, it is possible to do single units and small quantities unlike the litho printing.
