ARTWORK INFOMATION >>> Download of copy of this guide
|
Hopefully you will find all the necessary information within this guide to help you submit your artwork for a trouble free print-run.
Vector artwork is best for ltho and large format printing as the artwork can be re-sized without losing quality, programs in which vector art is created include Adobe Illustrator and Corel Draw.
Our program of choice is Corel Draw although you are welcome to supply your artwork as a jpeg or photoshop file as long as it is high resolution (300dpi or more). If you are printing business cards or brochures that contain small text we recommend a 600dpi file to maintain the quality of the text.
If there is something you do not understand, please contact us and we will try our best to help. |

| FORMATS WE ACCEPT |
 |
WE ACCEPT ARTWORK IN THE FOLLOWING PC FORMATS: • Corel Draw X5 (or less) • Photoshop CS2 (or less) • JPEG/PDF files from Corel Draw/Photoshop/Illustrator/Indesign/Freehand |

|
THE FOLLOWING FORMATS WILL BE SUBJECT TO A RESETTING COST: • Microsoft Word • Microsoft PowerPoint • Microsoft Excel • Microsoft Publisher • JPEGS/PDF files from Microsoft Word/Powerpoint/Excel/Publisher |
| MICROSOFT PUBLISHER, WORD, POWERPOINT, EXCEL do not produce a suitable print ready finish, so when submitting artwork in these formats they will require a resetting fee in order to make them print ready. Please be aware that this will require extra time in the production schedule for the resetting and proofing. |
JPEG FILES When supplying jpegs please ensure that they are a minimum of 300dpi (600dpi is preferable). They should also be setup in CMYK at the correct size with a 2mm all-round bleed. Please save on the highest quality setting.
PDF FILES When supplying PDF files everything must be CMYK and all fonts must be embedded. If close colour matching is required please supply us with the relevant CMYK breakdown to match to. If Pantone spot colours or custom spot colours are used these will be converted to CMYK by our machine upon print, it is rather best to change them before the artwork is sent to us. If you require the CMYK breakdown for a specific Pantone spot colour please contact us and we will be glad to advise. Please ensure that small black text is 100% black and not made up of CMYK. The document should also be supplied at the correct size and include a 2mm bleed where necessary. |
PAGE SIZE When designing for print it is essential that you setup your artwork at the beginning to the correct size that it will be printed. The page size is the final size your item will be cut to, and must include a 2mm all round bleed. For example: a business card is 90mm x 50mm when finished, but the artwork must be supplied with bleed at 94mmx 54mm. Templates with the sizes and bleed are available to download on our templates section on our website.
BLEED WHAT IS BLEED? Bleed is the extension of any background, image or colour that runs up to the egde of the page. We require the background, image or colour block to extend off the page by 2mm, so that when the finished item is cut, there is no white border around the edge of the page.
Please ensure that there is no text or items in the bleed area or they will get chopped off when the item is cut. |
 |
FONTS & IMAGE RESOLUTION If you supply us a file for printing, and it contains fonts that we do not have on our computer, our computer will substitute the font. To ensure a file prints as intended, please convert the fonts to curves (Corel Draw) or convert the fonts outlines (Adobe programs) before sending us the file. This will ensure exact placement according to your specifications.
All images used in the artwork must be a minimum of 300dpi and CMYK. Images off the internet are generally not good enough resolution to print from as they have been compressed and are in RGB format. If low resolution or internet image are used they will print blurry. |
 |
COLOUR All full colour printing should be completed and saved in CMYK process. CMYK is used for print and RGB is used for web and screen. We cannot take responsibility for any unexpected results experienced from artwork supplied in non-CMYK colours (such as RGB or spot colours). If close colour matching is required, please supply us with the relevant CMYK breakdown to match to. If Pantone spot colours are used for full colour printing, they will be converted to CMYK by our machine upon print. To ensure that the correct colour is achieved it is advised that Pantone and spot colours are converted to CMYK before sending us the file to print. If you would like the recommended CMYK match for your Pantone colour, please contact us and we will gladly assist you.
Metallics such as gold and silver, as well as bright colours such as dayglo cannot be created with full colour printing. |
INK DENSITY Total ink density should be no more than 200% maximum e.g. 100% cyan, 60% magenta 30% yellow 10% black. This is to avoid ink set-off and to assist in ink drying.
FINAL CHECK WHEN SUPPLYING US WITH PRINT READY ARTWORK PLEASE NOTE: We are not responsible for the print result of any 'print ready' artwork supplied. While we will always try and check artwork and advise of any issues before print, we cannot be held responsible for any incorrect printing resulting from incorrectly supplied artwork (including colours, font substitutions, image resolution etc...).
Please check all artwork before sending to us to avoid delays and costly mistakes. Should we be required to do any work on artwork supplied, we will charge a rate of R150 per hour for changes. We will not be held liable for any copyright claim or dispute between the client and prosecutor from artwork supplied.
